Dorothy's apartment was crammed full of health foods, vitamins and iron.  She is seen here with her secretary Verda Cleveland.

Beauty blessed her,but disaster was her constant companion.

A movie was suppose to happen starring Harry Belafonte, Marlon Brando and Dorothy Dandridge.  Both men were to vie for Dorothy in the film.  The project never came to fruition.  That would have been a great movie!

Dorothy had regrets that she did not have a baby with Otto.  Otto did not want a child together, but still she could have had a child with him had she put her selfless ambitions aside.  Dorothy cared more about his career than her own desires to have a child with him.

Rita accepted the role of 'Tuptim' in the highly successful film "The King and I" (1956), after Dorothy turned down the role because of Otto's advice that it was beneath her due to her being a leading actress in the 1954 film'Carmen Jones'. In my opinion it was a great mistake not to take the role.  No one would ever forget the talent and brilliance she brought to "Carmen Jones'.  Sometimes it seemed as though Otto forgot that he was living in one of the most racist countries at the time.

"People just seem to like to look at me" - Dorothy

Dorothy got a bigger ovation at the Cannes (France) Films Festival than Oscar winner Grace Kelly, causing columnist Sheila Graham to comment that Dandridge  "seems to have what the French want."
